So the World Series began today with the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays. And I just have to point out that the Backstreet Boys sung the National Anthem before the game. Unfortunately, the Phillies took game 1 3-2. Both teams had great opportunities to have a nice lead on the other team, but couldn't come up with the big hit when they needed it.
The umpires weren't so great in this game... they missed 2 calls, one of which could have changed the game for the Rays. The umpire missed the balk call on Hamels which resulted in Pena being thrown out at 2nd base trying to steal, which gave them the first out of the inning. The other call they missed was a pickoff attempt by Kazmir to get Victorino out at 2nd base. He was really out, but they called him safe. Fortunately, Upton threw him out at home plate so his run didn't score and that ended the inning!
All in all, it was a great first game of the World Series! Looks like it will be a great series... I think the Rays have more depth then the Phillies which I think will help the Rays pull it out! Time will tell... GO RAYS!!
